Sorry Liberals, But Trump Is A Genius At Sales
Does reading this title make you feel sick? Maybe more than a little angry? Do you want to stop reading before your head explodes? Bare with me for a second.
I'm not saying Trump's a genius at everything. Just at sales. Nothing else really.
Trump's not a genius at running a business. As great as he is at selling a business idea, he's ruined every business he's run. When he got the show "The Apprentice", he sold the idea to America that he was a genius at running a business, while in reality, he was hundreds of millions of dollars in debt.
Trump's definitely not a policy genius. He's not helping make American's lives more affordable or keeping America out of unnecessary wars.
After all that, Trump has kept most of his supporters. Why?
You might be thinking that it's because all Trump supporters are stupid, racist and/or crazy. What if that's not true? What if most are reasonable people? But why would any reasonable person still support Trump? Because they lost all other hope. Because they feel the promise of the American dream being out of reach. Trump saw this vulnerability and exploited it. To him, it's a business opportunity.
He's not trying to sell himself to you as a Liberal, but to the tens of millions of Americans who long for the promise of America. The people who feel hope again when he speaks. Even if he's not delivering on his promises, they feel like he's fighting for them.
That's why he's such a good salesman: He knows exactly what tens of millions of Americans want to hear and confidently promises them the future they thought was lost.
So what's the point in Liberals admitting that Trump is a sales genius? Because if you keep on underestimating him, you'll keep losing to him. If you keep talking to Trump supporters like they're stupid, racist or crazy, then they'll continue to block you out. They'll tighten their support for Trump because he clearly has their back more than you.
What can you do instead? Try sitting down with the Trump supporter in your life and say “I want to hear your reasons even if I may not agree with them.” Tell them that “you want to respect their perspective, even if you don't see eye to eye”. See what they say.
They might realize that you're not such a radical Leftist after all. Not a communist. And you might realize that they're not stupid, racist or crazy. They're just people who want to be heard.
And maybe you might help play a part in softening the division in America.
